The Old Rugged Cross Words and music by George Bennard Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, The emblem of suff’ring and shame; And I love that old cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain. O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, Has a wondrous attraction for me; For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above To bear it to dark Calvary. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown. In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, A wondrous beauty I see, For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died, To pardon and sanctify me. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown. To the old rugged cross I will ever be true; Its shame and reproach gladly bear; Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away, Where His glory forever I’ll share. So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown.

‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus Words by Louisa Stead, music by William Kirkpatrick Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, And to take Him at His Word; Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord!” Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust Him more! O how sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to trust His cleansing blood; Just in simple faith to plunge me ’Neath the healing, cleansing flood! Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus, Just from sin and self to cease; Just from Jesus simply taking Life and rest and joy and peace. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust Him more! I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee, Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend; And I know that Thou art with me, Wilt be with me to the end. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust Him more!

Sweet Hour of Prayer Words by William Walford, music by William Bradbury Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, That calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Father’s throne Make all my wants and wishes known! In seasons of distress and grief My soul has often found relief, And oft escaped the tempter’s snare By thy return, sweet hour of prayer. Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer! Thy wings shall my petition bear To Him whose truth and faithfulness Engage the waiting soul to bless. And since He bids me seek His face, Believe His Word and trust His grace, I’ll cast on Him my every care, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer. Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, May I thy consolation share, Till from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height I view my home and take my flight: This robe of flesh I’ll drop, and rise To seize the everlasting prize, And shout, while passing through the air, “Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!”

Trusting Jesus Words by Edgar Stites, music by Ira Sankey Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy Simply trusting ev’ry day, Trusting through a stormy way; Even when my faith is small, Trusting Jesus—that is all. Brightly doth His Spirit shine Into this poor heart of mine; While He leads I cannot fall, Trusting Jesus—that is all. Trusting as the moments fly, Trusting as the days go by; Trusting Him whate’er befall, Trusting Jesus—that is all. Singing if my way is clear, Praying if the path be drear; If in danger, for Him call, Trusting Jesus—that is all. Trusting Him while life shall last, Trusting Him till earth be past; Till within the jasper wall, Trusting Jesus—that is all. Trusting as the moments fly, Trusting as the days go by; Trusting Him whate’er befall, Trusting Jesus—that is all.

I Surrender All Words by Judson Van De Venter, music by Winfield Weeden Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give; I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live. I surrender all, I surrender all, All to Thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all. All to Jesus I surrender, Humbly at His feet I bow; Worldly pleasures all forsaken, Take me, Jesus, take me now. I surrender all, I surrender all, All to Thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all. All to Jesus I surrender, Make me, Savior, wholly Thine; Let me feel the Holy Spirit, Truly know that Thou art mine. I surrender all, I surrender all, All to Thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all. All to Jesus I surrender, Lord, I give myself to Thee; Fill me with Thy love and power; Let Thy blessings fall on me. I surrender all, I surrender all, All to Thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all.

Only Trust Him Words and music by John Stockton Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy Come, ev’ry soul by sin oppressed— There’s mercy with the Lord, And He will surely give you rest By trusting in His Word. Only trust Him, only trust Him, Only trust Him now; He will save you, He will save you, He will save you now. For Jesus shed His precious blood Rich blessings to bestow; Plunge now into the crimson flood That washes white as snow. Only trust Him, only trust Him, Only trust Him now; He will save you, He will save you, He will save you now. Yes, Jesus is the Truth, the Way, That leads you into rest; Believe in Him without delay And you are fully blessed. Only trust Him, only trust Him, Only trust Him now; He will save you, He will save you, He will save you now.

Day by Day 06:04
Day by Day Words by Lina Berg, music by Oscar Ahnfelt Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy Day by day and with each passing moment, Strength I find to meet my trials here; Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment, I’ve no cause for worry or for fear. He whose heart is kind beyond all measure Gives unto each day what He deems best— Lovingly, it’s part of pain and pleasure, Mingling toil with peace and rest. Every day the Lord Himself is near me With a special mercy for each hour; All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me, He Whose Name is Counselor and Pow’r. The protection of His child and treasure Is a charge that on Himself He laid; “As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,” This the pledge to me He made. Help me then in every tribulation So to trust Thy promises, O Lord, That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation Offered me within Thy holy Word. Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting, E’er to take, as from a father’s hand, One by one, the days, the moments fleeting, Till I reach the promised land.

Trust and Obey Words by John Sammis, music by Daniel Towner Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies, But His smile quickly drives it away; Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear, Can abide while we trust and obey. Trust and obey— for there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share, But our toil He doth richly repay; Not a grief or a loss, not a frown nor a cross, But is blest if we trust and obey. Trust and obey— for there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey. But we never can prove the delights of His love Until all on the altar we lay, For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows Are for them who will trust and obey. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet, Or we’ll walk by His side in the way; What He says we will do, where He sends we will go— Never fear, only trust and obey. Trust and obey— for there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.

My Faith Has Found A Resting Place Words by Eliza Hewitt, music by Andre Gretry Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy My faith has found a resting place— Not in device or creed: I trust the ever living One— His wounds for me shall plead. Enough for me that Jesus saves— This ends my fear and doubt; A sinful soul I come to Him— He’ll never cast me out. I need no other argument, I need no other plea; It is enough that Jesus died, And that He died for me. My heart is leaning on the Word— The written Word of God: Salvation by my Savior’s Name— Salvation through His blood. I need no other argument, I need no other plea; It is enough that Jesus died, And that He died for me. My great Physician heals the sick, The lost He came to save; For me His precious blood He shed, For me His life He gave. I need no other argument, I need no other plea; It is enough that Jesus died, And that He died for me.

Like a River Glorious Words by Frances Havergal, music by James Mountain Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy Like a river glorious is God’s perfect peace, Over all victorious in its bright increase; Perfect, yet it floweth fuller every day, Perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way. Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand, Never foe can follow, never traitor stand; Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care, Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there. Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest— Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest. Every joy or trial falleth from above, Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love; We may trust Him fully all for us to do— They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true. Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest— Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Near the Cross Words by Fanny Crosby, music by William Doane Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy Jesus, keep me near the cross— There a precious fountain, Free to all, a healing stream, Flows from Calv’ry’s mountain. Near the cross, a trembling soul, Love and mercy found me; There the Bright and Morning Star Sheds its beams around me. In the cross, in the cross Be my glory ever, Till my raptured soul shall find Rest, beyond the river. Near the cross! O Lamb of God, Bring its scenes before me; Help me walk from day to day With its shadows o’er me. In the cross, in the cross Be my glory ever, Till my raptured soul shall find Rest, beyond the river. Near the cross I’ll watch and wait, Hoping, trusting ever, Till I reach the golden strand Just beyond the river. In the cross, in the cross Be my glory ever, Till my raptured soul shall find Rest, beyond the river.

Jesus Is All the World to Me Words and music by Will Thompson Arranged and performed by Dave Mincy Jesus is all the world to me, my life, my joy, my all; He is my strength from day to day, without Him I would fall. When I am sad, to Him I go, no other one can cheer me so; When I am sad, He makes me glad—He’s my Friend. Jesus is all the world to me, and true to Him I’ll be; O how could I this Friend deny, when He’s so true to me? Following Him I know I’m right, He watches o’er me day and night; Following Him by day and night—He’s my Friend. Jesus is all the world to me, I want no better friend; I trust Him now, I’ll trust Him when life’s fleeting days shall end. Beautiful life with such a Friend, beautiful life that has no end; Eternal life, eternal joy—He’s my Friend.

about

God spoke to my heart as I began to work on "A Place of Quiet Rest II". Specifically, He led me to hymns dealing with the idea of trust. Like the first CD, I’ve kept this album quiet and have included as many verses in each improvisation as are in the hymn. This, of course, makes these pieces a little longer, but I wanted to promote meditating on the words of each hymn. It is my hope that this CD will assist you in “trusting Jesus, that is all”.
